Monthly meetings

Access Recreation is a Portland, Oregon ad hoc committee that has been developing uniform guidelines for minimum information that should be provided about hiking trails and outdoor recreational facilities, that would benefit hikers with disabilities.  These guidelines can be applied to websites, printed materials and at trail sites.

When put into place, these guidelines will provide the public with easy access to better information on the accessibility of recreational and hiking trails in the states of Oregon and Washington and nationwide.  This information will increase opportunities and safety by allowing all trail users to make a more informed decision as to which trails will best suit their needs and ability levels.

Access Recreation was conceived by Georgena Moran who had discovered that the primary obstacle to hiking trails was a lack of useful information.

The committee is made up of representatives from federal, state and local park agencies and organizations that support people with disabilities.

A list of the committee members and their websites is available by clicking here

The final version of the guidelines is available by clicking here and throughout this site.
